Long Island Offshore Wind Park Project

Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) and Florida Power and Light Energy proposed to build and operate a wind park consisting of 40, 3.6 megawatt (MW) wind turbine generators covering 8 square miles in Federal waters, approximately 3.6 miles south of Jones Beach Island, Long Island, New York. The MMS has been awaiting the official decision from LIPA since 2007 on the disposition of the Long Island Offshore Wind Park Project.

Interim Policy Projects

The interim policy was announced in November 2007 before the issuance of the final regulations in April 2009. The interim policy allowed for limited leasing and was designed for resource data collection and technology testing activities. The interim policy leases have a five year term and provide no subsequent commercial rights. In June 2009, the MMS offered a total of five leases, four in New Jersey and one in Delaware. Four of the offered leases were executed on November 1, 2009.
